The Product

Are all hats stocked and available for immediate delivery?

With few exceptions, all hats are in-stock and available.
Customers will be notified immediately of any out-of-stock situations.

What does “Structured” and “Unstructured” mean?

These terms relate to the shape of the front panel of caps.
Structured caps utilize a stiffener behind the front panel (usually a material called ‘buckram’ which tends to keep the front panel more vertical). While unstructured caps can also utilize buckram behind the front panel, they more frequently have no stiffener and therefore offer a more relaxed fit.

What is a “Low-Profile” cap?

The terms Low-Profile and High-Profile describe the depth of the crown. A Low-Profile cap will ride higher on the head than the deeper crown of a High-Profile cap. Both types may be structured or unstructured.

What is a “Fitted” cap?

Most caps are adjustable with a rear closure of some type. Fitted caps have a stretchable perimeter and require no rear closure.

What is a “Trucker” cap?

“Truckers” are caps that have high buckram stiffeners behind the front panel(s). Trucker caps often have mesh rear panels.

What is a “Sandwich Bill”?

As the name implies, a sandwich bill has a contrasting trim color between the cap and under bill color. Embroidery that utilizes the ‘sandwich’ color can provide a very pleasing effect.

Can I combine colors or styles to get a better price?

Colors within a style but different styles may not be combined to obtain a better total quantity price.

Can I import hats directly?

The Company offers a direct import program which can produce some substantial savings on orders with as little as 576 hats with 90 lead times. For more information contact the Company directly.

Are stock embroidery designs copyrighted?

All designs in our stock embroidery library herein are copyrighted. They are for the exclusive use of WHOLESALEHATS.COM customers, and may not be copied or reproduced elsewhere.

Can I change a stock design?

Any design in our stock embroidery library may be color changed and/or resized slightly. Be careful not to exceed the size maximums. Normally the Company sews designs and name-drops in colors that compliment the product but special requests may be honored as well.

Can my own logo or design be embroidered?

Yes. The majority of the Company’s projects utilize customers’ logos. If no embroidery diskette is available (see “What is Digitizing” below), the Company’s In-house digitizers will convert the logo artwork to a digitized format that can be read by the embroidery machine. There is a one-time set-up fee to do so. (See “set-up fee” below.)

Is there a set-up fee?

Only if there is only artwork (no digitized embroidery diskette). In such cases there is a one-time charge – not to exceed $95.00 for creating the embroidery pattern and a machine-readable diskette. The embroidery design then becomes the customer’s property and, at the customer’s direction will be e-mailed to anyone without additional charge.

How do I send my logo or design for embroidering?

The easiest and fastest way is to e-mail designs in as high a resolution as possible, preferably 200 dpi or higher. Please email them to [email protected].. It can only be sent in one of the follow formats: .jpg, .bmp, .tif, .psd, pdf, .eps or .ai. Designs may also be mailed directly to the Company at: 39301 Badger St., Ste 600, Palm Desert, CA 92211

Embroidery

What may be embroidered on a hat or cap?

The average size for embroidery on the center front of a baseball hat is 1-1/2 to 2 inches tall by about 4 to 4-1/2 inches wide. Maximum embroidery sizes range from 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches tall by 5-1/2 to 6 inches wide depending on the crown height and construction of the hat.

Embroideries on cap sides should not exceed 3-1/2 inches wide by 1-3/4 inches high. Cap backs with a closure have size limitations in both height and width due to the opening for the closure. It is generally best to arch lettering over the closure.

Visors cannot accommodate embroideries taller than 1-1/4 inches and wider than 4-1/2 inches.

Beanies can generally fit embroideries of 2 inches tall up to 5-1/2 inches wide depending on the beanie style. Beanies without a cuff can fit taller embroideries in most circumstances.

Bucket hats, Ivy caps, Army hats, Jockey caps and other styles can have specific size limitations due to limited crown height, bands, panels and how they are constructed.

Embroideries may have to be resized in some cases.

The Company will only embroider designs where ownership, copyright, and right to reproduction authority is clearly defined and legal.

What cannot be embroidered on a hat or cap?

Shadows, gradients, color fades and distressed effects are too complex for embroidery at the small sizes required for hats. Areas of color need to be solid.

Lettering that is too small and certain fonts that are too compressed or have serifs that are too small for a needle and thread to stitch. Lettering must reach a minimum of around 1/4 of an inch tall when the logo is sized appropriately for a hat. Some fonts may require a larger size if they are detailed or compressed. Some fonts may need to be replaced if they are not suitable for embroidery.

Excessive outlines on lettering or shapes are often not possible due to the width of the outlines, height of the letters, and available space. Outlines also double or in some cases triple the stitch count.

What is “Direct Embroidery?”

Direct embroidery is simply embroidery that is applied after the cap or hat has been constructed. It customizes and identifies the hat by incorporating a customer’s own name, design or logo.

What part of a hat can be embroidered?

We have provided drop-down menus listing the available embroider-able areas for each style. With the exception of visors that can only be embroidered on the center front panel, most hats and caps can be embroidered on all four sides.

Can I place more than one embroidery on a hat or cap?

Yes. Most hat and cap styles can receive multiple embroidery locations. One standard embroidery location up to 6,000 stitches is included in the prices shown. Each additional embroidery location also up to 6,000 stitches will add $4.30 for orders of 2 dozen, or $2.55 for 3+ dozen to be added to the basic price. (Visors may only be embroidered on the Center Front.)

What is digitizing?

Digitizing is the process of creating embroidery from simple artwork. It requires both a specialized software program and trained technician to produce an embroidery stitch format that can be read by embroidery machinery.

Will my embroidery look good?

Generally caps and hats love embroidery since there is little stretch to the fabric during the stitching process. Only when letters are too small (less than 1/4”) or when backgrounds are completely filled underneath lettering, or letters contain outlines can problems occur. Also since embroidery uses thread, color changes cannot occur gradually. Usually however accommodations can be made that will enhance the embroidery while retaining the character of the design. The Company’s design staff will contact customers when there are design issues.

How do I send my embroidery diskette?

If you have used an embroiderer previously and have your design already digitized, simply ask the embroiderers to email that design in a “.dst“ format. This is a universally recognized format for transporting digitized embroidery. It is not necessary to send the actual diskette unless you cannot contact your previous embroidery company.
